Karachi —High dollar parity against rupee is a
major attraction for overseas Pakistanis
remitting record rising trend as an amount of
$3,089.77 million was received in the first four
months (July-October) of the current fiscal year
2009-10. The current volume of remittances
showing an increase of $743.78 million or 31.70
percent over the same period of the last fiscal
year. The amount of $3,089.77 million includes
$0.87 million received through encashment and
profit earned on Foreign Exchange Bearer
Certificates (FEBCs) and Foreign Currency Bearer
Certificates (FCBCs).

Islamabad—Removing barriers to trade and
investment will help advance integration efforts
in South Asia and deliver sweeping benefits to
the region, a new Asian Development Bank (ADB)
study shows. The study, Intraregional Trade and
Investment in South Asia, prepared by ADB, in
partnership with the Australian Agency for
International Development (AusAID), is one of
four new publications on South Asia.
Lahore—As the Code of Corporate Governance of
Pakistan is being reviewed, the business case of
board committees other than audit committees
need to be discussed urgently and
comprehensively. This was recommended by an
exploratory discussion paper “Looking Beyond
Audit Committees” commissioned by Association of
Certified Chartered Accountants Pakistan’s
Corporate Governance sub-committee.
Islamabad—A
large number of Pakistani engineering
sub-contracting companies are participating in
the EXPRO-84, Export training programme, of CBI,
Rotterdam, Holland, according to a message
received here today. Most companies
participating are specialists in casting,
forging, gear making, plastic parts and sheet
metal fabrication. Earlier, through its external
experts, the CBI had guided these Pakistani
companies on skills needed for becoming
successful exporters.
