PCB names Yousaf for test series against New Zealand

Lahore—Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed stylish batsman Muhammad Yousaf as the captain of the Pakistan team for the test series against New Zealand,giving rest to outgoing crisis ridden captain Younis Khan. Yousaf has been appointed captain for the three-test series commencing in New Zealand from November 24, said Chairman, PCB, Muhammad Ijaz Butt when contacted on phone by APP in Dubai on Wednesday.

Top cueists to leave for India on Thursday

Islamabad—A four-member Pakistan Snooker team will embark to India on Thursday to participate in the IBSF Snooker Championship 2009 to be staged at Hyderabad, India, from November 15 to 25. As per our policy, Pakistan No. 1 Mohammad Sajjad and No. 2 Mohammad Asif will feature in the annual spectacle,” President Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA), Alamgir Shaikh, told APP on Wednesday.

Tennis: Djokovic downs Monaco in Paris

Paris—Third seed Novak Djokovic booked his place in the third round at the ATP Paris Masters by beating Argentina’s Juan Monaco 6-3, 7-5 at the Bercy arena here on Wednesday. The Serb, who beat Roger Federer in the Basel final on Sunday, came back from 2-0 down in the first set and secured the decisive break of serve when Monaco whipped a forehand into the tramlines at 15-40 and 3-4 down.

Asad, Sami put Karachi Blues in winning position


Karachi—Asad Shafique smashed a superb unbeaten century and Muhammad Sami snapped-up three wickets to put Karachi Blues in a winning position on the penultimate day of their four-day Quaid-e-Azam Cricket Trophy at the National Stadium here on Wednesday. Set 419 runs for victory, Lahore Ravi were reeling at 48 for the loss of four wickets in their second innings. Fast bowler Muhammad Sami took three wickets for 26 runs in eight overs.

Dawson beats Johnson again to remain undefeated

Hartford (Conn)—Chad Dawson, fighting in his home state, won an unanimous decision over an older and slower Glen Johnson to remain undefeated and win the interim WBC light heavyweight title. The 27-year-old Dawson, who vacated his IBF title to fight Johnson for a second time, outboxed his 40-year-old opponent, who was never able to get close enough to land the hard punches that made their first fight in April 2008 so tight.
