Pak team to join mainstream of world hockey: Bajwa

Lahore—Secretary, Pakistan Hockey Federation, Mohammad Asif Bajwa said national senior team is striving to join mainstream of world hockey and success in World Cup qualifying round is a step forward to this goal. It is a sour reality that we are not among top teams of the world as we are at seven number in world wide ranking, we are endeavouring to improve our hockey by achieving step by step success”, he told APP here Tuesday after team’s arrival from France where it won the qualifying round to earn a place in next year’s World Cup in India.

Premier Football League: Navy become new leader

Lahore—International midfielder and Navy’s skipper Nomi Martin Gill became second leading scorer of the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) as seamen outpaced Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority WAPDA (42 pts), KRL (41) and Pakistan Army (41) to become new leader in the 14-team Table.

Senate panel for depoliticizing sports

Islamabad—Expressing its utter dissatisfaction and disappointment over performance of 40 sports federations all over the country in promoting and developing sports, the Senate Standing Committee on Sports (Sports & Youth Affairs), Tuesday, directed the Ministry of Sports to keep a vigilant eye on the affairs of the various federations particularly with regard disbursement of funds and monitoring of their elections.

Aamer, Ajmal miss world mark by four runs

Karachi—Muhammad Aamer and Saeed Ajmal missed the world record by four runs during their amazing 103 runs tenth wicket stand in the third One-Day International between Pakistan and New Zealand at Abu Dhabhi on Monday. Pakistan was heading towards massive defeat when number 11 batsmen Saeed joined left handed Aamer at the crease under dazzling lights of Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Win against Pakistan boosts NZ: Vettori

Abu Dhabi—Captain Daniel Vettori said New Zealand had grown in confidence after winning their three-match one-day series against Pakistan 2-1. New Zealand scored a seven-run victory over Pakistan here on Monday, having survived an explosive half-century by tail-ender Mohammad Aamir, during which he and Saeed Ajmal scored a new Pakistani record of 103 for the 10th wicket.
