PM stops recoveries in affected areas

Peshawar—The Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on the complaint of the NWFP Minister for Finance Engineer Muhammad Humayun Khan has directed the Agricultural Development Bank of Pakistan (IDBP) and House Building Finance corporation of Pakistan (HBFCP) to immediately stop recovery of loans from the people of Malakand Division and avoid disturbing them forthwith as a special relief package is under process with the federal government for providing special relief to the people of the division in the agriculture, industries and business sectors.

ZTBL to use latest crop tech for productivity

Islamabad—Zarai Taraqiati Bank Ltd (ZTBL) would collaborate with Japanese firm M/S Finetech for the transfer of Japanese technology for improvement of soil quality and enhancement of Crop productivity. They would bring investment in Pakistan for the development of agriculture sector. An agreement has already been signed with M/S Finetech. said in a press release issued here today.

Dubai—UAE consumers remain the most optimistic in the Middle East and Asia Pacific region, posting 102 index points, higher than the global average of 86, according to the latest Nielsen Consumer Confidence Index, which measures consumer sentiments worldwide.

Etisalat fibre-optic network to cost over Dh5b

Abu Dhabi—Etisalat’s UAE fibre-optic network will cost the company more than Dh5 billion, Chairman Mohammad Hassan Omran said today. The company aims for the network, which now covers 60 per cent of UAE households and businesses, to reach 90 per cent coverage by 2011, he said on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Conference 2009.

Oil lower in Asia as Hurricane Ida worries ease

Singapore—Oil fell in Asian trade Tuesday as worries over the potential threat posed by Hurricane Ida to petroleum installations in the Gulf of Mexico subsided, analystssaid. A firmer US currency, which makes dollar-priced crude more expensive for holders of foreign units, was also a factor in pushing oil futures lower, they said. New York’s main contract, light sweet crude for December delivery, fell 39 cents to 79.04 dollars a barrel.
