It is very unfortunate and humiliating that Asif Ali Zardari, a duly elected President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan suffers from the image problem at home and abroad for commissions and omissions labelled on him, incarceration in jails for more than a decade after arrest on corruption charges till the enforcement of the much maligned National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). It is worrisome that this perception is thickening and the person of the President has become target of all sorts of rumours, jokes and sarcastic remarks. It was surprising for me to hear from a diplomat of a non-Muslim country who jokingly but knowing well what he wanted to convey, said: "When officials from his country meet the President they keep a safe distance so that their dresses were not grabbed".
