Another Brigadier hurt in terror fire

Staff Reporter

Islamabad—Gunmen fired on the car of an army Brigadier, injuring him and his driver in a third such attack against senior military officers in 15 days. The brigadier and his military driver were injured and taken to a nearby hospital, said DG ISPR Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas.

The attack took place around 8:30 a.m. in Sector I-8/4 when gunmen on a motorbike opened fire at the car of Brigadier Hafiz Muhammad Sohail as he drove out of his home onto the main road. General Abbas said Brig.

Sohail was in stable condition and was speaking to military officials. His driver, however, was in serious condition. According to a TV report, two bullets hit in the official’s chest, one in leg and another passed touching his head.

Assailants fled from the scene while the injured were shifted to Pakistan Institution of Medical Science (PIMS). Security forces and police cordoned off the entire area and a hunt for the attackers was underway. On Oct. 22, Brig. Moinudin Ahmed was assassinated while riding in his jeep. Two assailants on a motorcycle fired on his vehicle in rush-hour traffic, killing him and his driver, and wounding another soldier.

The attackers used automatic weapons to fire on the jeep, which was not bulletproof, and then disappeared into the heavy traffic. On Oct. 27, two gunmen, also on a motorcycle, fired on another brigadier in a military vehicle but caused no casualties.
