Islamabad—Chairman Senate, Mr. Farooq H. Naek
has underscored the need to evolve a broad
national consensus to tackle key issues of
pressing nature including terrorism and
extremism by taking all stakeholders on board.
He was addressing the Certificate Award Ceremony
of the 10th National Security Workshop held at
the National Defence University, Islamabad. It
was attended among others by a group of
parliamentarians, civil society members and
journalists. It included Senators Jahangir Badar
and Mir Hasil Bizengo, MPAs Shafi Muhammad,
Athar Gorchani, Muhammad Anwar Khan and Tariq
Bugti.
Islamabad—A joint meeting of civil society
organizations was organized by AASHA (Alliance
against Sexual Harassment at workplace that
include Mehergarh, Bedari, Hawwa Crafts, PODA ,
Interactive Resource Centers , PILER, Action Aid
and many others here. The Civil society
members highly commended the National Assembly
for passing the amendments in section 509 in PPC
(Pakistan Penal code) which gives protection to
women against harassment. This Bill declares
sexual harassment as an inappropriate behaviour
and a crime. May it be harassment of women
working in the fields, women laborers working on
the brick kilns or those working as domestic
workers.
Islamabad—The National
Assembly was apprised on Friday that government
has constituted special task force and
committees to upgrade the federal capital to
Education City to execute the dream of Prime
Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani. Replying to a
question, Minister of State for Education Ghulam
Farid Kathia informed the House that the project
of Education City would comprise the
up-gradation of primary as well as the higher
education to bring a wholesome change in the
society.
Islamabad—Ministry of Population Welfare is
contemplating to involve graduates of local
madaris in its public sensitization schemes
regarding population control. The government in
its endeavor to counter the population challenge
is keen to make optimum participation of madaris
students in controlling the big surge in the
population to 202.11 million by 2023. Mian
Moazzam Shah, Director General, of the Ministry
talking to journalists said the ministry has
already engaged 22,800 ulema and imams of
various mosques in its scheme of public
counseling for family planning.
Islamabad—The most deserving
recipients of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP)
have appreciated the government for initiating
this pro-poor programme which has provided them
relief from the inflationary pressure. Most of
the deserving families expressed joy over the
relief programme, adding that the programme is
very helpful. The people who are receiving this
stipend paid rich tributes to Shaheed Mohtarma
Benazir Bhutto and said she still lives in their
hearts and minds.
