More FC forts planned in NWFP

Islamabad—The government has decided to construct 25-Platoons Frontier Constabulary Forts of Daud Zai Mohamand at Chughar Mitti area of Peshawar District to check the militants and troublemakers who have made lives of Pakistani masses miserable, a senior official at Planning Commission told Pakistan Observer.

The said Forts would help the government to establish its writ in the said area and to provide ease to the masses which are under tremendous duress because of the militants activities.”

The construction of Standardized 25-Platoon FC Forts would cost Rs 481.133 million and this project would be completed in three years from 2009 to 2010.

At present, the whole country is virtually at war with militants and the full scale military operation is underway. The areas which are cleared from the militants now need such installation not to allow the militants to emerge there.

This is the first phase as the government should also construct the cantonments in areas such as Swat, Malakand to ensure the safety to the masses and also to help the government establish its writ,” the official explained.

Mentioning about the detail of the said project, the official said that this project has been initiated in pursuance of President of Pakistan.

In the first fiscal, the project will be provided Rs 83 million, in second fiscal Rs 213 million and in third financial year Rs 132.133 million financing will be arranged fro the project for timely execution.

Under the scope of the project, the land measuring 14 kanals would be acquired. Building Portion will be comprising offices, barracks, dispensary, dining hall, canteen, telephone exchange, Gymnasium and power house will be constructed. Water supply and sanitation network will also be ensured in Forts. In addition, the facilities including the electrification (internal and external) on an area of 141890 square feet, gas works on an area of 29083 square feet and air conditioning of 3974 square feet will also be ensured in the said Forts.

To a question the official said no foreign funding was available for this project of paramount importance.

The official said the Central Working Development Party (CDWP) in its last meeting held on September 17 with Deputy Chairman Mr Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali in the chair has already accorded approval to this project.
