ZTBL earns Rs2b profit this year

Lahore—Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited’s (ZTBL) profit of Rs 2 billion this year has marked another landmark achievement and this initiated the bank to raise its assets by constructing its own buildings. This was stated by the ZTBL’s President Zaka Ashraf in a ground breaking ceremony of ZTBL building at Vehari, says a spokesman of the bank here on Wednesday.

Competition law to ensure infrastructure development

Islamabad—The Chairman, Competition Commission of Pakistan, Khalid Mirza has said that competition agencies have a very important role to play in infrastructure development as the Competition Law extends to all economic activities. He was speaking at the “South Asia Conclave on Enabling Regulation for Investment in Infrastructure” in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Telenor opts for solar power to extend services in rural areas

Karachi—The Telenor Pakistan opts for solar power to extend services to rural customers. An announcement here on Wednesday said that Pakistan can now cost effectively extend its network to untapped rural areas of the country. It said that the mobile operator has signed a contract with Nokia Siemens Networks to build off-grid sites using the energy harvested from the sun. Telenor Pakistan was the first cellular operator in Pakistan to have a site dependent on solar technology in January 2008, it was pointed out.

WB boosts China 2009 growth forecast

Beijing—The World Bank Wednesday upgraded its 2009 growth forecast for China to 8.4 percent on the back of huge public spending but said stronger domestic demand was needed to ensure a sustainable recovery. The new prediction by the Washington-based lender in its quarterly update marked a sharp jump from its June forecast for 7.2 percent growth.

MGCL donates Rs1m for IDPS

Islamabad—Mari Gas Company (MGCL) ltd realizing its Corporate Social Responsibility immediately responded to the crises faced by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of South Waziristan Agency (SWA). The company dispatched relief goods worth Rs. 01 million as its first tranche for the families who have suffered physically and emotionally due to massive operation against Taliban in the effected areas.
