Islamabad—The federal cabinet has approved
several measures to manage the shortage of gas,
improve sugar supply, and ensure purchase of
paddy from the farmers. The Cabinet meeting was
held here Wednesday under the chairmanship of
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and
specially attended by all the chief ministers.
Peshawar—The operation titled Rah-e-Nijat, being
conducted against the terrorists in South
Waziristan agency under the supervision of the
army, appears to be entering the decisive phase
as the security forces after clearing major part
of Taliban’s strong hold Sararogha, Wednesday
advanced into strategic Ladha town where the
noose around the militants loyal to TTP chief
Hakimullah Mehsud was being tightened.
Islamabad—The issue of NRO was again raised in
the National Assembly on Wednesday. PML-N leader
Ahsan Iqbal said when anything was presented in
the National Assembly it becomes the property of
House. Dr Babar Awan Minister for Parliamentary
Affairs informed the House that NRO had been
withdrawn and there was no need for any
resolution.
Islamabad—The government has decided to
construct 25-Platoons Frontier Constabulary
Forts of Daud Zai Mohamand at Chughar Mitti area
of Peshawar District to check the militants and
troublemakers who have made lives of Pakistani
masses miserable, a senior official at Planning
Commission told Pakistan Observer.
Islamabad—World Bank (WB) should refrain from
interfering in the legal matters of government
of Pakistan and not to give any dictation as
legislation is the sole mandate of government of
Pakistan and it would not accept any dictation
from any one on this count. This was said
by ministry of finance in a statement issued in
response to a letter received from WB
representative for Pakistan here Wednesday.
Islamabad—The Interior Ministry on Wednesday
submitted a progress report on the status of the
missing persons to the office of the Supreme
Court Registrar on the apex court’s directive.
The Supreme Court had directed the Inspector
General of Police Islamabad to make coordinated
efforts with the Interior Ministry and IGP
Punjab for the missing persons’ recovery.
