Zimbabwe fold for 44 to surrender series

Chittagong—Bangladesh’s top order has rarely been in prime form over the past year, but if there was a game in which they could afford to fail, this was it. After the home side’s bowlers demolished Zimbabwe for 44, the fifth lowest total in one-dayers, even a familiar failure at the top couldn’t stop Bangladesh from taking the series by knocking off the runs in 11.5 overs.

PEL, Army earn wins

Lahore—Pakistan Army once again proved themselves as a Pakistani powerhouse in soccer when they posted a 2-0 impressive win over PMC Athletico Club at Agriculture University Ground, Faisalabad in Pakistan Premier Football League on Tuesday. While Lahore’s Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) jumped to eighth place when they recorded a thrilling 4-3 win over Pakistan Navy at here MTFA Ground.

Kamran lifts Pakistan to 287

Abu Dhabi—Shahid Afridi was at the head of a rescue operation of spectacular proportions at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, where much like a magician, he turned a limp and disastrous 75 for 4 into an ominous 287 for 9. Afridi’s innings opened up the floodgates for the lower order, in particular Kamran Akmal, who plundered New Zealand relentlessly at the death: in all 137 runs came in the last 15 overs and 206 off the last 25. Whatever advantage had been New Zealand’s, thanks to an outstanding opening spell from Shane Bond, was thus laid to waste in a haze of boundaries.

PCB ready to allocate 50m for women

Lahore—Despite the financial crisis in Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as current security situation of the country, the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt has decided to provide the funds of more than 50 million rupees to women wing for the year 2009-10. Sources told this scribe that the governing body of Pakistan Cricket Board will take this final decision to allocate this fund in his up coming meeting which will be held on 7 November at Lahore.

Peshawar—PPPC club beat 3-C club by six wickets in the 2nd All-FATA Khyber Agency Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, which got under way at Jamrud Cricket Stadium, Khyber Agency on Tuesday. President Abbottabad Region Cricket Association Amir Nawab was the chief guest on this occasion and formally inaugurated the tournament.
