Nukes in safe hands: PM

Islamabad—Prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani expressing his satisfaction over the results of the South Waziristan operation has said that nuclear weapons are completely safe and there is no chance of them falling into the hands of the extremists.

He expressed these views while talking to Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Tariq Majeed who met with the PM at Parliament House here on Tuesday. The two discussed matters related to professional capabilities of the Pakistan Army, law and order situation in the country and results of ongoing operation in South Waziristan.

According to sources Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani expressed satisfaction over the results of ongoing operation in south Waziristan.

CJCSC briefed the PM about the steps taken for protection and development of country’s nuclear weapons.

Prime minister said that nuclear programme of Pakistan is for maintaining peace in the region and we would maintain minimum deterrence. He said that our National Command and Control Authority system is fully effective and the question of nukes falling into the wrong hands does not even arise.

Prime minister assured Tariq Majeed that all resources would be provided for enhancing the capabilities of the armed forces.—Online
