Owais urges emergency passage for Chitralis

Peshawar—NWFP Governor, Owais Ahmed Ghani has stressed the need for providing emergency passage facility to the people of Chitral through the under construction Lowari Tunnel during the ensuing winter season. Presiding over a briefing to review pace of progress on the project at Governor’s House Peshawar, the Governor said, “ensuring security of this project of vital importance is must but at the same time there is a need to facilitate the people on humanitarian grounds as well”, he added.

Ex-NRB chief opposes powers to NAR executives

Peshawar—Former National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) chairman and chief of the Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment Daniyal Aziz has announced struggle against the government move to extend powers of judiciary to executive in the Nizame Adle Regulation (NAR) recently implemented in the Malakand Division and demanded of the government to announce date for the election of the local bodies election.

Mother-child heath week observed

Abbottabad—The mother- child health week was observed here in the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed DHQ Hospital Abbottabad. NWFP Health Minister, Syed Zahir Ali Shah, EDHO and DCO Abbottabad, on Monday highlighted provision of quality health care to the mother and child to protect them untimely death in the district Abbottabad. A large number of women and their children, particularly from the remote areas of Galyat valley participated in it.

Sindhi optical character system can be innovated: Researcher

Hyderabad—A research scholar Dil Nawaz Hakro maintains that Sindhi Optical Character System could be developed and the same could be used as a foundation for further Sindhi language characters’ recognition by applying recent techniques of computer vision. The scholar claimed this while delivering the final seminar for his M.Phil thesis at the Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT), Jamshoro. A University spokesman said this is first research initiative for Sindhi character recognition, which has been taken by IICT.

Two out of 31 sugar mills start crushing

Hyderabad—Out of 31 sugar mills, operating in different parts of Sindh, two mills have started cane crushing while 14 others have started preparation by torching their boilers in the on-going Cane Crushing Season 2009-2010. According to Sindh Cane Commissioner, Tharparkar Sugar Mills of Kot Ghulam Muhammad and Matiari Sugar Mills Matiari have started crushing while Al-Asif Sugar Mills Gharo, Army Welfare Sugar Mills Badin, Digri Sugar Mills Digri, Faran Sugar Mills Shaikh Bhirkio, Ghotki Sugar Mills Ghotki, Habib Sugar Mills Nawabshah, Mehran Sugar Mills Tando Allahyar, Mirpurkhas Sugar Mills Mirpurkhas, Pangrio Sugar Mills Pangrio, Sakrand Sugar Mills Sakrand, Seri Sugar Mills Seri, Shahmurad Sugar Mills Jhoke Sharif, Sindh Abadgar Sugar Mills Deenpur and Tando Muhammad Khan Sugar Mills Tando Muhammad Khan are at the pre-stage of crushing with flaming to boilers.
