Peshawar—Hell was unleashed on innocent citizens
of Peshawar as yet another deadly explosion in
the interior city on Wednesday afternoon left at
least 105 people dead and over two hundred
others mostly women and children seriously
wounded. The doctors at the provincial
metropolis main Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) fear
that the death toll may go much higher as dozens
of wounded persons were still in precarious
condition.
Islamabad—President Asif Ali Zardari on
Wednesday said that the democracies of the world
can help speed up the process of healing and
development by helping democracy in Pakistan and
rendering assistance in critical areas of social
and economic development.
Srinagar—Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan
Singh, while extending the olive branch to all
sections of people of Indian occupied Kashmir as
well as to Pakistan, said that he is ready to
hold talks on all outstanding issues with
Pakistan and that he wants to discuss all issues
with Pakistan. Speaking at the inauguration
ceremony of Qazigund-Baramulla Railway line in
Anantnag, Manmohan Singh said he was for
friendly ties with Pakistan on all issues and
had in fact made progress in 2007 when new
routes were opened up between Pak-occupied
Kashmir and the Valley.
Islamabad—The Director General ISPR Major
General Athar Abbas said here on Wednesday that
another 25 terrorists have been killed in South
Waziristan and huge cache of arms and ammunition
has been recovered from them. Five soldiers were
injured in the operation.
Kabul—Taliban militants wearing suicide vests
and police uniforms stormed a guest house used
by U.N. staff in the heart of the Afghan capital
early Wednesday, killing 12 people — including
six U.N. staff. It was the biggest in a series
of attacks intended to undermine next month’s
presidential runoff election.
