Sindh Bank to be established by end of this year
Hyderabad—Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister Sharmila
Farooqui has said that Sindh Government is actively working for the
establishing Sindh Bank and hopefully it would materialize by the
end of this year.
Talking to mediamen here on Sunday, the Advisor said that in
addition to scheme of Sindh Bank, multidimensional strategy is being
implemented by present democratic government to financially empower
the deprived people of society through Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Income
Support Programme (SBBISP), providing agriculture land to landless
farmers, introducing Waseela-e-Haq Programme, providing job
opportunities to people in thousands number aimed to raise the
purchasing power of the poor people.
She said that 2.2 million poor families have so far been
incorporated in the SBBISP under which, each beneficial is being
provided Rs.1,000/- per month as financial assistance while after
each three months, 721 families are being selected from SBBISP net
through balloting to entitle them to get Rs.0.3 million each under
Waseela-e-Haq Programme and resume their micro level business and go
to self employment rather than getting Rs.1,000/- per month.
Sharmila Farooqui said that recognition of multifactor formula for
NFC Award is the great achievement of Sindh Chief Minister and his
team and added that the same achievement is also expected in the
next meeting to be held on October 29 and 30 2009 at Peshawar to
decide about vertical distribution of the NFC Award.
Replying to a question, the Advisor said that almost all the IDPs
who arrived here from Sawat Malakand Division have returned back to
their homes and added that Sindh government would continue its
previous policy with regards to the matters of anticipated IDPs from
Waziristan in Sindh and assured that they not only be registered but
also be returned back on the normalcy in their respective areas.
Expressing her satisfaction overall law and order situation in Sindh,
she said that Sindh government has earmarked Rs.24 million to
re-strengthen and re-equipped Sindh Police.
She informed that Sindh government is also working to have provision
of DNA testing and other chemical examination facilities at Karachi.
However, she expressed her concern over corruption and maltreatment
in Sindh Police and added that “we must have to raise the salaries
of Police personnel to get them out from corrupt practices”. She
expressed concern over the violation of human rights in the pretext
of “Karo-Kari”. However, she made it clear that without bringing
behavioral change, proper enforcement of law and support from civil
society, this menace cannot be eradicated completely.—APP |
