Delhi—India’s troubled preparations for the 2010
Commonwealth Games in New Delhi suffered a major
setback on Thursday as local organisers clashed
angrily with their international bosses. The
Indian organising committee demanded that Mike
Hooper, chief executive of the Commonwealth
Games Federation, be sacked in an escalating row
over whether the city will be ready when the
Games open in less than a year’s time.
Montevideo (Uruguay)—Argentina made it to next
year’s World Cup. Barely. Mario Bolatti scored

AN injury-hit New Zealand have handed a maiden
international call-up to Northern Districts
opener BJ Watling and comebacks to Scott Styris
and Tim Southee. The trio got a look-in for the
limited-overs fixtures against Pakistan in the
UAE to make up for the absence of Jesse Ryder,
Grant Elliott and Daryl Tuffey, who sustained
injuries during the Champions Trophy. Nathan

Karachi—The four-day second round of Quaid-e-
Azam Cricket Trophy will start at different
centres of the country from Friday. At National
Stadium Habib Bank will take on KRL. Messrs
Saleem Badar/Khalid Mahmood Sr will supervise
the match. Ilyas Khan will be match referee.
