Construction of 32 dams for agri uplift on card, NA told

Islamabad—Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf Monday said that 32 dams would be constructed in all the four provinces and FATA for agriculture development in the Barani areas of the country. Replying a question, the minister told the House that the work on construction of 12 dams will be completed in the first phase which would help for irrigation development of 635,584 acres of land with micro irrigation system (Drip/Sprinkler Irrigation system).

Pakistan values USA ties: Kundi

Islamabad—Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi has said that Pakistan highly values its relations with USA and wanted to further strengthen these relations for the welfare of the people of both the countries. The Deputy Speaker expressed these views while talking to the US Ambassador Anne W. Patterson who called on him at his residence here on Monday.

IIUI organizes seminar on minorities’ affairs

Islamabad—The Department of Sociology of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Department, Gov. of Punjab on Monday arranged a seminar on “Mainstreaming Minorities in Pakistan: Challenges and Prospects” at female Campus of the university. Vice President of the university Parveen Qadir Agha was chairing the seminar while Justice (R) Nasira Javed Iqbal of the Lahore High Court was the chief guest of the seminar.

Eight criminals, two POs arrested

Islamabad—Sabzi Mandi police station Islamabad arrested eight dangerous criminals including two proclaimed offenders and also recovered three pistols, eleven rounds from their possession, the police spokesman said. Following the directions of SP (Industrial Area) Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani, special campaign was launched against the persons involved in murders and dacoity incidents by a police team comprising of SHO Sabzi Mandi police Inspector Muhammad Hussain Lasi, Sub-Inspector Haider Ali, ASI Hafiz Muneer Ahmed and Head Constable Sarfaraz Ahmed. Five persons including two proclaimed offenders were arrested.

Islamabad—World mental was celebrated at PIMS on this occasion a special session was organized with a lecture on a very topical issue Post-traumatic stress disorder.This detailed talk was given by Anne Goodwin a California based specialist . She said that Posttraumatic stress disorder is a special kind of illness which affects traumatized population.The trauma may be natural like earthquakes and floods or manmade like war, accidents and terrorism etc.
