Islam accords supremacy to human rights: Taseer

Lahore—Punjab Governor Salman Taseer has said that Islam is a complete code of life and the only religion which holds human rights supreme, besides stressing upon ‘Haqooqullah’. He was talking to a nine-member Christian delegation, headed by Bishop Wilson John Gill, who called on him at the Governor’s House on Friday. Chairman International Gospel Dr. Markas Fida, Bishop of Faisalabad John Samuel and Dr. Babar Peters were part of the delegation.

Legal action against cops ordered

Lahore—Taking serious notice of public complaints, Punjab IGP Tariq Saleem Dogar has suspended SHO Sabzazar Faisal Sharif and also ordered for initiating strict legal and disciplinary action against six police officials on the charges of corruption and defective investigation.

Peshawar blast condemned

Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif condemned the bomb blast in Khyber Bazaar, Peshawar on Friday and expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives. In a condolence message, the CM prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved families to bear the loss with fortitude and equanimity.

Benefits to prisoners reviewed

Lahore—The Registrars of superior court, provincial home secretaries and the Reclamation & Probation Directors on Friday reviewed the progress made by the provinces in extending benefits to deserving prisoners under Parole and Probation of Offenders Ordinance 1960.

Gojra inquiry report handed to Punjab govt

Lahore—Registrar of the Lahore High Court Tahir Pervaiz, on behalf of Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman handed over inquiry report about the violent Gojra incident to the Government of the Punjab. The unfortunate incident took place at Gojra district Toba Tek Singh on 01.08.2009 and the competent authority had appointed Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman, as One Man Inquiry Tribunal on 02.08.2009 for finding out facts about the sad episode.
