Islamabad—Inaugurating a conference on disaster
management in connection with anniversary of
2005 earthquake here Thursday, Prime Minister
Syed yousaf Raza Gilani said a comprehensive
strategy has been devised to reduce risks and
overcome losses in case of any disaster.
Islamabad—The Chairman Senate, Mr. Farooq H.
Naek has said that the Committee system is of
paramount importance in a democracy as it not
only holds the key to effective ‘parliamentary
oversight’ but also fine-tunes the legislative
work of the parliament.
Rawalpindi—Despite raids conducted by the
district administrations to recover sugar
hoarded by the profiteers and clear directives
of supreme court of Pakistan, the commodity is
scarce and is being sold at Rs. 56 per kg in the
twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. To the
disappointment of consumers, it is not even
available at the retail shops in large number of
areas in the twin cities.
Islamabad—Tourism industry, which remained in
shackles by prolonged militancy and other
security-related issues, however, earned US $
278.741 million (Rs. 16905.40 million) during
2006-07 and US $ 264.140 million (Rs. 16485.631
million) in 2007-08 for the national kitty.

Chaudhry on Thursday took suo moto notice on a
report of daily Dawn, Islamabad about abduction
of 27-year old Abid Hussain. According to
report, the poor vegetable vender Abid Hussain
was allegedly kidnapped by his employer in 2004
after a salary row at Sadiq welding workshop
Bagrian, Lahore.
