senior Palestinian official on Tuesday accused
Israel of deliberately creating “an extremely
dangerous situation” in East Jerusalem, to
trigger violence, justify a crackdown and
tighten its grip on the disputed city.
Lalomanu—Samoans who
fled to the hills as a deadly tsunami tore
through their villages last week began searching
for materials to build new homes far above the
sea that washed away their dwellings and many
loved ones. The tsunami claimed another life
Monday as a woman who had been rescued from the
raging waters died from her injuries in Samoa’s
Apia Hospital, police said.
Tehran—Iran
plans to use a new generation of centrifuges for
enrich-ing uranium at its newly-disclosed
nuclear fuel facility, its atomic energy chief
said in remarks published on Tuesday. The
underground enrichment plant near the holy
Shi’ite city of Qom had been kept secret until
Iran disclosed its existence last month, setting
off an interna-tional furor.
Padang—Fresh
international aid was on its way to earthquake
victims in the Indonesian city of Padang on
Tuesday as schools and shops re-opened despite
the stench of death and shortages of water. At
the crumpled Ambacang Hotel in the city centre,
excavators briefly ceased digging when workers
thought they heard a woman’s cries for help from
beneath the rubble, but a search revealed no
further signs of life. “There’s no one alive.

world when a people who have been wronged for
over half-a-century are treated as pariahs?
Wherever the Palestini-ans turn they find every
door shut. Whatever they do to obtain even a
fraction of their rights they face
insurmountable obstacles. Time and time again,
they pursue international justice only to
discover that it doesn’t exist for them.
