Fazl offers mediation between Govt,Taliban

Peshawar—Jammiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has strongly opposed the proposed military operation in South Waziristan and offered to mediate talks between the militants and the government.

JUI sources said that during his recent meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Party Chief Maulana Fazlur Maulana Fazlur Rehman opposed to SWA opera-tion, offers mediation between Govt-Taliban PESHAWAR, Oct 04 (INP): Jammiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has strongly opposed the proposed military in South Waziristan and of-fered to mediate talks between the militants and the government.

JUI sources said that during his recent meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani , Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman conveyed the position of his party to the Government. The sources said that JUI was also opposed to the operation in Swat and Malakand which dis-placed millions of people and led to the loss of so many lives and destruction to property.

They said the JUI-F is making all possible efforts to persuade government to avoid military operation in Waziristan Agency that would take the situation to dangerous turn.

The JUI-F sources disclosed that their party is in constant contact with key Taliban leadership to soften the grounds and pave the way for dialogues between government and Taliban fighters.

A private TV channel quoted Maulana Fazal ur Rehman as saying, “I have offered the government for playing my role in starting dialogues with Taliban.—NNI
