Rs 10 coin on 60th China anniversary

Islamabad—To express the solidarity and unity with the Peoples Republic of China on historic occasion of 60th anniversary of its founding on October 1 2009, the Government of Pakistan has decided to issue 10 rupees commemorative coin in the quantity of 100,000 pieces from State Bank of Pakistan. “The Government of Pakistan has decided to issue 10 rupees commemorative coin in the quantity of 100,000 (One hundred thousand) pieces from State Bank of Pakistan, through SBP banking services corporation (Bank) w.e.f October ,2009”, a statement of Finance Division (Internal Finance Wing) said here on Thursday.

FBR steps to increase tax-GDP ratio

Lahore—The Federal Board of Revenue is taking all possible measures to increase Tax-GDP ratio by bringing into tax net the untapped sectors of the economy. This was stated by Director General Income Tax Khawaja Shaukat Ali while speaking at inauguration ceremony of FBR Facilitation Center at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday.  The LCCI President Mian Muzaffar Ali, President-elect Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, Vice President-elect Faisal Iqbal Sheikh and former President Mian Misbahur Rehman were also present on the occasion. Khawaja Shaukat said that Tax-GDP ratio in Pakistan is low when it is compared with other regional countries including Bangladesh. He said that the Agriculture and services sectors were being encouraged in this regard as these two sectors have been identified as the untapped sectors.

42 MW more power to come into national grid by Dec 31

Islamabad—National power system would have over 42 MW power produced from alternate sources besides existing sources of hydal and thermal systems by December 31 to resolve power crisis in the country. Well placed sources in Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) revealed on Thursday that the Board is set to pour 35 MW electricity produced from Biogas, 6 MW from wind and 1 MW from micro-level hydro projects operated by its various stakeholders and private power producers by December this year. They told that as an advisory board, AEDB has taken great stride during last one year since its formal inception to meet its objectives and also assured that the share of renewable energy in the system will increase manifolds by the end of next year.

Economy on positive growth for last one year

Islamabad—The country’s economy has been gradually moving towards building basis on sound footings as the economic indicators have improved during the past one year. Not only the country’s foreign exchange reserves have now reached to $14.360 billion but the other indicators have shown considerable positive growth during the period under review. The inflation eased to a 20-month low in August 2009 as it dropped to 10.69 per cent after edging up 11.2 per cent in July 2009.

Sialkot business produces high quality products

Sialkot—The business community of Sialkot engaged with Sports Goods industry was making strenuous efforts for producing high quality and standard products to cope with the international market more easily. Former Chairman Pakistan Sports Goods Manufactures and Exporters Association (PSGMEA) Prof. Safdar Sandal stated this while talking to the newsmen here. He said that Sialkot which is a hub of cottage industry and famous for producing quality and standard sports goods and now had entered into manufacturing of “Motorbike” apparel and accessories and it would be a big ripple in economic activities which would fetch a handsome foreign exchange for the country.
