World Literacy Day
President stresses legislation for free education

Islamabad—International-Literacy Day is being observed today (Tuesday) with the theme “ Literacy for Empowerment” to highlight the difficulties of staggering 776 million adults worldwide who still lack basic reading and writing skills. In a message on the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari said it is an important occasion for planners and decision makers to assess achievements and shortfalls in the filed of basic education, for the prosperity and security of our coming generations. Death anniversary of Ashfaq Ahmed

Islamabad—Pakistan renowned writer, intellectual and spiritualist Ashfaq Ahmed fifth death anniversary was observed here Monday. He was a distinguished writer, playwright, broadcaster, intellectual and spiritualist. His prime qualities of heart and hand earned appreciations across the borders. Ahmed was born on 22 August 1925 in Garh Muktesar village, Ferozepur district, India. He obtained his early education in his native district. After partition, he got a job in Radio Azad Kashmir, which was established on a truck that used to drive around in various parts of Kashmir. Youth, children cultural show enthralls audience

Islamabad—The children and youth from local educational institutions of the twin cities, celebrated the ‘Defence Day’ of Pakistan to pay homage to the martyrs of 1965 war through songs and tableaus here Monday. PAF observes Martyrs’ Day

Islamabad—Pakistan Air Force observed 7th September, 2009 as Martyrs’ Day at all PAF Bases throughout the country. The day started with special Du’a and Quran Khawani for the Shuhada of 1965/1971 wars and those who died in action since creation of Pakistan.  A simple but impressive ceremony was held at Air Headquarters Islamabad, in which Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, laid floral wreath and offered “Fateha” at the Martyrs’ Monument.
