Oil stays below $69

Singapore—Oil was up in Asian trade Thursday but stayed below 69 dollars amid worries about the pace of the global economic recovery, analysts said. New York’s main contract, light sweet crude for October delivery was 62 cents higher at 68.67 dollars a barrel. Brent North Sea crude for October delivery added 28 cents to 67.94 dollars a barrel. Australia concerned over global economy

Sydney—Australia said Thursday it remained “deeply concerned” about the global economy and could not rule out a double-dip recession, with European toxic assets and US debt still an issue. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said the global economy was “not out of the woods yet”, with the prospect of a long and challenging recovery.

ECB raises growth forecasts, keeps rates on hold

Frankfurt—The European Central Bank (ECB) left interest rates on hold Thursday at their historic low of 1 per cent, but raised its growth and inflation forecasts for the 16-member eurozone amid signs that the recession is drawing to an end.
