King Abdullah
assures full support to Pak peace efforts
Islamabad—Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz,
has assured full support and cooperation to the
Government of Pakistan in their efforts to bring
peace and stability in the region and prosperity
of Pakistanis. He was talking to Interior
Minister A. Rehman Malik, who was on two-day
official visit to Saudi Arabia. The Ambassador
of Pakistan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Umar
Khan Alisherzai was also present during the

honey moon with lucrative profits now seems to
have confronted with tough times with declining
profits at least by 31 percent in the first half
of 2009. According to informed sources profit
after tax (PAT) of the banking sector declined
by 31% to Rs26.8billion during first half of
2009 as compared Rs38.7billion in the

their offensive against the trouble makers in
the wake of suicide attack on a police training
centre Mingora on Sunday which killed 17 cops,
scores of insurgents were gunned down in Swat
and it’s out skirts during the last 24 hours
while a soldier also embraced Shahadat. Besides,
more than two dozen miscreants were also nabbed
by the troops during the search and cordon off

negotiators failed to clear the way on Monday
for the start of talks this year on nuclear
disarmament as Pakistan said its security
interests had not been respected. Efforts will
now focus over the coming months on trying to

US Gen calls for
fresh Afghan strategy Kabul—The US and
NATO commander in Afghanistan on Monday
submitted a review into the nearly eight-year
war, calling for a revised strategy to defeat
the Taliban and reverse the country’s “serious”
situation. General Stanley McChrystal’s review,
compiled since he took up command in mid-June,

Eid remissions
for prisoners Amanullah Khan
Karachi—Elder prisoners above 70 year of age and
mothers with minors not involved in anti state
crimes are likely to be remitted on the occasion
of Eidul Fitr. In this respect, on the
directives of President Asif Ali Zardari jail
authorities have been assigned to prepare the
lists of prisoners who are above 70 years and
women with minor children, not involved in
heinous or anti-state crimes with a view to
remit their remaining sentence. |

Quetta—The Chaman border between Pakistan and
Afghanistan has been reopened after colossal
damage caused by fire in which servera1 NATO
trucks, oil tankers and goods for domestic use
were destroyed last night. Inquiry has been

preventing trucks in long queue waiting for
