Nawaz sees CoD as panacea for all ills
PML-N against drone attacks

London—PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif Friday said that the PPP leadership’s manners at present reveal that they are considering Charter of Democracy (CoD) just a piece of paper.

Addressing PML-N workers in London, he said that if the government had implemented Charter of Democracy in its letter and sprit, many a challenge to the country would have been removed.

He said that the killer of late Nawab Akbar Khan Bughti was free, if the government had implemented CoD the killer would have been brought to justice.

He said that his party will not extend its support for the government on the issue of providing protection cover to the bad deeds of General® Pervez Musharraf, adding his party was supporting the government unconditionally almost on all the important issues of national interest.

Nawaz maintained that accountability in true sense was need of the hour for the nation and all the organs of the state must realize that until there would be no accountability the country could not be able to move on the right direction.

He observed that in accordance with the constitution the prime minister should have more powers but at the moment the government was not serious in empowering the premier with its constitutional powers.

He said that the question of creating new province in Punjab was a constitutional matter and it requires constitutional amendment, adding Sindhis, Punjabis, Pathans, Balochis, and Kashmiri all are Pakistanis and love their homeland.

He added that his party was against the USA’s drone strikes but the person who had allowed the US government to carry out drone attacks inside the Pakistani territory was also living in London.

Replying to a question regarding talks with the Indian government he said his party was always in the favor of Pak-India talks and it was his party which had initiated talks on solid basis with India.

He said that dialogue with the Indian government should be result-oriented and it must not be used as a blame game and passing of time.

Nawaz added that no Pakistani organization was involved in the Mumbai attacks and India should realize the situation.

To a question, he said that India had respected its constitution in every matter so it’s why democracy is flourishing there day by day and had not provided any vacuum to dictators.

He said no one should be allowed to challenge the writ of the government, adding that the terrorists are following the footprints of the dictators by raising guns against the government and challenging its writ.

Nawaz said that there should be no pressure on the judiciary in any way and it must function independently and freely as the people of Pakistan had rendered countless sacrifices for this very cause.

He said that the former dictator Pervez Musharraf deceived the nation on Kargil and it was Pervaiz who requested the premier in 1999 to approach to the then US President Clinton to seek his support on ceasefire in Kargil. He said that today all the intelligence agencies was under the control of the government.

Answering to another question, he said that how Rehman Malik can have the knowledge of presence of any terrorist in any specific area.—NNI
