Islamabad—Prime Minister, Syed Yousuf Raza
Gilani has called upon the US to write off its
debt to help the Government of Pakistan overcome
the present economic difficulties accentuated by
the war on terror, growing crisis of IDPs and
the negative impact of the global recession. He
further urged the US administration to initiate
action through the US Congress for substantial
increase in aid for Pakistan as well as fast
track the much-needed military supplies for
Pakistan’s campaign against terrorism.
Peshawar—At least 38 people were reported killed
and more than 50 others received serious bruises
when a suicide bomber attacked a mosque in a
remote village of Upper Dir during the Juma
congregation. Independent sources are however,
putting the death toll at more than 40.
Islamabad—President Asif Ali Zardari describing
the fight against militancy as a “fight for our
very survival” said that “Future generations
will not forgive us if we fail”. In an interview
with Financial Times on Friday President Zardari
said that although significant progress has been
made in the war against militancy in NWFP but
still its too early to say that we have won.
Islamabad—US President Obama’s Special Envoy for
Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke
Friday expressing satisfaction on the military
operation by Pakistan Army in Swat and other
areas said the United States would respect ‘red
lines’ marked by Pakistan in the war against
terror. Addressing a press conference here at US
embassy after his three day visit to Pakistan,
he said the US forces will not enter into the
territory of Pakistan and would respect its
sovereignty and integrity.
Rawalpindi—During the last 24 hours, 10
terrorists were killed and four including 3
activists of TNSM were apprehended. Fourteen
security forces personnel including an officer
and 5 policemen embraced Shahadat and 14 were
injured, according to ISPR.
Karachi—On the back of rise of what is called
target killings, acts of violence resulting in
the killing of at least 15 persons just in one
week have pushed the metropolitan Karachi to
uneasy calm.
