Partial strike against IDPs influx in Sindh

Karachi—Partial strike was observed on Monday on the call given by Jaey Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) throughout Sindh, including Karachi against the influx and repatriation of internally displaced persons of Swat and Malakand division in Sindh. However, Mutahida Quami Movement (MQM) decided to disown itself from the strike following the late night negotiations with the provincial government. The educational institutions postponed examinations following the announcement of strike call while important business centers remained closed.

Killing of Sikh Sant in Vienna
Indian Punjab on fire


New Delhi—Violence erupted in Indian Punjab over the killing of a Sikh leader of ‘Dera Sachkhand Ballan sect’ in Vienna as followers of this sect put on fire trains, buses and shops in Jalandhar, Ambala, Ludhiana, Phagwara, Patiala and few parts of Hariyna states on Monday. Sant Niranjan Dass, head of Dera Sachkhand Ballan, and his second in command Sant Ramanand were attacked in Vienna on Sunday. Sant Ramanand was later succumbed to his wounds at midnight. Army has been called out in Jalandhar and adjoining areas to control the situation as protestors blocked road and train traffic.

Islamabad—Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that judiciary is being separated from executive to improve its performance, restore the confidence of the public in the system and clear the huge backlog of cases which is a big challenge.
