Islamabad—At least 360,000 people have fled
heavy fighting in northwest Pakistan in little
over a week and registered with authorities,
officials said Monday. A spokeswoman for UN
refugee agency UNHCR told AFP: ‘360,600
individuals registered in camps and outside
camps as part of a new influx from Swat, Buner
and Lower Dir’ since May 2.
Islamabad—Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani
has held out an assurance that militants in Swat
and Malakand Division would be forced to
surrender soon and writ of the government will
be established there.
Peshawar/Rawalpindi—The security forces Monday
continued their operation against the insurgents
challenging the writ of the government in
volatile Malakand Agency and incessant bombing
on militants positions in Barikot and other
areas amid unprecedented migration of the
population from the region towards safer places.

Peshawar—A suicide car bomb explosion at a FC
check post in Darra Adam Khel F R Kohat on
Monday morning left at least 10 people including
two men in uniform and a minor dead and many
others seriously injured.
Peshawar—The PML-N Quaid and former Prime
Minister, Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that the
elements responsible for fanning insurgency in
Swat, Dir Lower and Buner districts did not
deserve any leniency and must be brought to
justice.
New York—NATO forces in Afghanistan should
immediately release the results of their
investigation into a March 14, 2009, incident in
which an 8-year-old girl in Kapisa province was
burned by white phosphorus munitions, Human
Rights Watch said. A NATO spokesperson has
denied allegations from the girl’s father that
NATO forces had fired the rounds that caused her
injuries. “White phosphorus causes horrendous
burns and should not be used in civilian areas,”
said Marc Garlasco, senior military analyst at
Human Rights Watch. “NATO should immediately
make public the results of its investigation
into this incident.”
