  Who to blame?

Sharqa Salim

The unfortunate death of Syeda Faiza Zaidi on April 18 grieved us all. She was the student of second year Computer and Systems of NED University. She was crushed to death when she fell off the Point of Karachi University. Who to blame for her death? The point driver, the victim, the point administration of NED or KU or the government. Nowadays due to economic crisis every one wants to save money by any means, using university point or shuttle not only save money but a good source of saving our time and also provides us security to some extent.

Every one prefers to use point or shuttle rather than public buses and the victim also was one of those who used point or shuttle. The government should probe this matter which is causing causalities whether it is due to lack of buses or increase in fairs we are losing our educated youth. —Karachi

  Waiting for good news

Shahid Ali

Every day dawns with a hope that it will bring us good news from our beloved land but alas in vain. It started after 18-2-08.I believe the curse of Musharraff continues because of his NRO which exonerated PPP-Z of its trillions looted and trusting power to most corrupt, inexperienced and incompetent.

What is happening in Swat, Fata, Balochistan is their incompetence, flip flopping and wasted year to win seat of power in Punjab through Salman Taseer, President who is personally responsible for every wrong to consolidate his power and appease India,USA,UK,Karzai. —London

  Stay united

Shahryar Khan

Mr Ansar Abbasi is a respectable journalist, but the way he returned his plot is objectionable. Lets not malign each other. This was not the purpose. Please try to understand the situation, media owners want a split between journalists community.

I have also written a letter to Ansar Abbasi as President Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) though he is not our member yet it is my duty to remind him that the owner of group he is working with is enjoying lots of financial benefits from the government, sometimes in name of financial crunch and unfortunately sometimes in the name of his employees. The plot of building where Mr. Ansar Abbasi works was also given by the then government.

If i got a plot, now every member of press club is getting it, so what is the problem, please do not do this to your community. Few people compared Ansar with CJP, this is not fair. He is a journalist, if he had to return it there was no point publishing that item in newspapers to get cheap publicity. If there was anything wrong in that press club list, why he remained silent for two good years and what is the reason to break this silence at this time when Journalist community is expecting good news about implementation of 7th Wage Board Award. —Via email

  Unlawful govt policy

Hafizuddin Ahmed

Kind attention of the Honourable Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan is drawn on the Move Over Policy of the Finance Division’s Government of Pakistan, which being unlawful needs to be amended to meet the ends of justice. In this case, the question which requires consideration is as under:-

(a) That in the Civil Petition No 1350 of 2002 titled Ch Abdul Ghafoor v/s the Secretary Finance, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad, the Honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan has allowed one increment to the Petitioner on grant of his move over and the said Judgement was implemented by the Finance Division vide their letter No F.9 (1) Legal-11/2004-1149 dated 22/09/2004 but the benefit of the said Judgement, in similar nature cases, has not been extended to others which is against the settled Law. Reliance in this respect is placed upon the Honourable Federal Service Tribunal’s Judgement reported as 1989 PLC (CS) 546 Mian Ghulam Qadir and 2 others Versus Secretary, Establishment Division, Rawalpindi and 10 others, the relevant part of Para 8 of which is reproduced below:-

“It has been held in several cases that benefit of the decision of the Tribunal or the Court in an identical case should not be refused to the co-employee on the ground that he was not party to that decision. Reference may be made to the cases:-

(1) Malik Mushtaq Hussain V Secretary, Ministry of Finance and another 1984 PLC (CS) 452, (2) Chairman Pakistan Railways, Lahore V Muhammad Latif and others 1984 SCMR 286, and (3) Muhammad Bashir Shaikh V Secretary to Government of Punjab Communications and Works Department 1985 PLC (CS) 758, —Islamabad

  Hillary & Zardari

Bashir Hussain Azad

Hillary has given useful tips to President Zardari ahead of the latter visit to White House next week. In her statement before the US Congress subcommittee on appropriations, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton admitted that Al-Qaida was a by-product of the American proxy war against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan during 1979-89. This is the argument President Zardari and his team should pursue while talking to President Obama and his team in the White House.

Pakistan should claim compensation for the Afghan war, revise all agreement inked by Gen. Musharraf and Gen. Zialul Haq. President Zardari should also tell the American President that we are no more in need of financial aid or military help from the US administration because it always backfires.
