Why at the Muslims cost

Fazal Hakeem

The year 2009 too seems not to have a good message for the Muslims if one sees Jewish State indiscriminate genocide in Palestine. More than 400 innocent Palestinians have been martyred. Protestation march in Iran, Egypt , Syria , Sudan Jordan Afghanistan and Indonesia condemned the heavy handedness of Israeli aggressions. One can easily understand the so-called US/Europe free media unilateral reporting and propaganda campaign. Jewish aggression has caused an outraged amongst the Arabs in particular. In post-9/11 era, the terrorism phenomenon has become an anathema to the Muslims as the curse is being tied with the Muslims and their democratic and more peaceful religion. Dutch politician Geert Wilders known for his anti-immigration views had even stated in early 2007 that Muslims should tear out half of the Quran if they want to live in his country. The anti-Islam/Muslim feelings and crusade is an undeniable fact. Muslim voice against religious susceptibility and condemnation of anti anti-Islam and Muslim views is billboard “fundamentalism”.

On 2 January 2009 a nine members Muslim family was not allowed to board a plane in USA because they were discussing current situation amongst themselves. Though FBI later cleared the family, the episode substantiated as to how the pseudo champions of humanity is deeply steeped in religious intolerance. Yellow journalism is spear heading a high pitch propaganda presenting Muslims as the crux of militancy and extremism. What is terrorism and what are the causes that led to world-wide vulnerability, no body bothers? Nor the root causes will be found out. Insecurity and uncertainty is a recipe for running the wheels of developed states’ weapons industry. Nevertheless, Muslims are being targeted. They are being martyred like carrots as if their lives have no value Phenomenal disunity amongst the Muslims and financially and technologically world lust for the wealth is the primary cause of present day’s unpredictable scenario. Lack of vision and developed countries machinations has converted natural resources in the Muslim countries as a liability rather than assets for them. One can easily understand the future intentions of developed world if one reads the report of US Joint Forces Command. The question also arises as to why Afghanistan is being made centre of command for future military strategy in the Muslim world is the moot question?

According to a media report US Joint Forces Command has vowed to fight insurgency in the Muslim world for 25 years. As a long term measures, the United States are building permanent military structures in war ravaged Afghanistan . The official Voice of America radio quoting Defense Secretary Mr Gates as saying that the United States was preparing to fight “irregular wars” across the Muslim world for years to come. The US Corps of Engineers sought bids for some projects in Kandahar could cost as much as $500 million while three separate projects for housing facilities for the US troops will cost at least $100 million each to be completed by end 2009. It also includes construction of guard stations and towers and perimeter fencing around the barracks area; putting in vehicle inspection areas; renovating a building to house administration offices; and constructing a separate office building, cold-storage warehouse storage, maintenance shops, warehouses and other supporting infrastructure.

Bids were invited in early December 2008 for construction of a new power plant for the Kandahar base, as well as electrical and water distribution systems and communications lines. At another section of the Kandahar air field, an installation to house a corps support battalion, adjacent to an Afghan National Army garrison, is also under consideration. US Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who retains his office in the next administration, assured the Afghan government that the United States was making a “sustained commitment” to that country. “You will see a continuing American commitment to defeating the enemies of the Afghan people during the administration of the President-elect” as well. Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters that by next summer, up to 30,000 US troops would join the 31,000 already in Afghanistan . American leadership sees the future with irregular types of threats which need to respond. What the Pentagon calls “irregular warfare” covers everything from limited conventional war, with tanks and artillery, to urban warfare fighting insurgents, and includes the need to help foreign governments with everything from army and police training to building electrical grids, water systems and effective bureaucracies, the report added. The report indicates that that Iraq is not part of this long-term strategy. What are the other targets in Muslim world still a mystery.

The construction plan is in contrast to earlier assessments by several western officials, including the ISAF spokesman that the war in Afghanistan cannot be won militarily. That’s why the process of contacts with the opposition forces has the backing of US Administration. Seven years after the invasion of Afghanistan , the writ of the occupational and local security forces moves around capital- Kabul . It is also certain that as long as the occupational forces failed to win the sympathy of the locals, security in Afghanistan will remain a dream. The situation substantiated that the US and its allies have so far utterly failed to ensure reconstruction of Afghanistan , create jobs and resurrect the country’s physical and institutional infrastructure. No headway has also been made in choking the narcotics trade that funding the Taliban, which is not surprising given the clout that drug barons wield in Kabul ’s corridors of power, in addition to high rate of corruption.

With the connivance of so called champions of democracy and humanity, Indian leadership has very cleverly exploited the international scenario in their favour by connecting freedom movement in Kashmir to terrorism. Lately, the Mumbai attacks is being exploited to pressurize Pakistan illogically than to confess the failure of its security agencies and find the causes as to how the attackers have been able to carry out such a catastrophic operation. During talks with his Saudi counterpart Sauid Al Faisal, Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee stated that New Delhi might eventually fight its own battle with the attackers of Mumbai and it was rather a war with global dimensions, which had to be won collectively. Pakistan is determine to root-out extremism and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Terrorism and militancy is the foremost threat to Pakistan security, integrity, economy and social fabric. Pakistani leadership has made it crystal clear that world should understand ground realities in the region. Help Pakistan to combat the curse of terrorism. Pakistan favours improved relations with all neighboring countries on equality and understanding to defuse regional tension and facilitate peaceful environment for regional peace and development.

In post-Soviet era, the fatalist idea of “Clash of Civilizations” was floated. The focus was/is Islam and Muslims. Afghan leaders’ personal enmity and continued civil war, led to emergence of Taliban. Their policies provided an opportunity to the merchants of self-interests to intervene for their long terms objectives in name of democracy. The voices for having a multi-polar world evaporated and vulnerability waves are common for the Muslims. Samuel P. Huntington’s anti-Muslim dangerous and maverick ideology “Clash of Civilizations” is being implemented in Muslim world. Muslim countries are being subjected to barbarism and plundering their resources going with impunity. To market their high tech weapons Muslims are being sensitised on their security in the name of terrorism and militancy. It is the time for the Muslims to be united. Muslim leaders are duty bound to show statesmanship qualities enabling them to deal the financially advanced world on equal footings. Muslim world should facilitate good environment through establishment of an excellent and free for all education system. Encourage their talented expatriate experts of different disciplines to serve their brethren with good spirit and honour for long term goals than to serve others as second class citizens.
