Qaim ensures continuity of coalition government

Staff Reporter

Karachi—Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Thursday vowed to ensure that present coalition partnership in Sindh Government continues so that years old problems, agonies and difficulties of people of Sindh were redressed.

He stated this while making a statement with regard to ongoing tug of war between MQM and ANP which both sides also voiced in the Assembly Thursday.

Referring to MQM-ANP issues, the Chief Minister said our effort is to ensure that the coalition remains intact and this is in the interest of people of Sindh.

He said that this had also been the point of view of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and ANP President Asfandyar Wali. He said PPP leadership had been of the opinion that if any disturbance or chaos occurs in Karachi, it is going to affect whole of Pakistan. Therefore, he pointed out, after the elections were held in the country, an effort was made and which was also the programme of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, to develop a consensus to the effect that no matter whichever party gains majority, its government will be allowed to run with due respect given to the opposition.

In this regard, he recalled, talks were held with MQM and ANP and efforts made to form a coalition government, although PPP was in majority position in the Province and at the centre.
