Road network planned to reach Central Asian States

Islamabad—Federal Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan has said that all Mega Projects would be completed despite law and order problems, and urged politicians to think above personal interests and join hands to restore law & order situation and improving public order, which is extremely vital for the development of the country. The spokesperson for Ministry of Communication here that the Minister said said that new alignment has been proposed for Peshwar- Torkham Expressway and its work would be completed in one month. The Minister urged that every person of the country should take part in peace activities, so that all the mega projects could run in the country.

He said that joint efforts are necessary for normalizing the law & order situation in NWFP. He also said that he has open door policy to resolve the problems of the people. The minister further said that the work on Lowari Tunnel has been completed up to 95 percent and entire work would be completed by January 15, 2009 at the cost of Rs.7 billions. He said that due to the construction of Lowari Top Tunnel, the people of chitral and other linked districts would feel ease and it would also be linked with the Central Asian States.

He said that steps have been taken to initiate work on Peshawar Northern Bypass, which would be completed in 15 days and this project would run with the help of Asian Development Bank at a cost of Rs.4 billions. He said that it would be a six lane express highway, which would connect Peshawar with Afghanistan through Charsadda, and Torkhum. He said that due to this project the traffic of Peshawar city will be smooth lined. He said that government was focusing on construction of highway projects in Balochsitan and Sindh province, as well. He further said that Karakuram Highway will greatly help in construction of Diamir Basha Dam, which is being completed by the Chinese.

Dr.Arbab said that Gwadar is being linked with Europe and Central Asian Countries by road and rail, which would be a hub of all future trade activities. He said that this would also strengthen the economic conditions of the country. He said that focus was being made to complete mega projects on BOTs basis and majority of projects have been in full swing in Balochistan. The Minister highly lauded the professionalism of National Highways and Motorways Police and vowed to provide every possible facility to them to more modernize.
