Plan to build 132kv grid station at Kohlu

Islamabad—With a view to addressing the grievances of Balochistan,
particularly the people of Kohlu area where in Nawab Akbar Bugti
well known leader of the province lost his life while fighting with
the then government machinery, the PPP government has planned to
construct 132 kv grid station at Kohlu to electrify the whole area.
According to officials, some of the areas of Kohlu is getting power
supply from Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesc)’s network and
being located at tail end with 33 kv voltage level, the up gradation
from 33 to 132 kb transmission line along with construction of grid
station will play vital role for the projected load demand of the
area under which Kohlu town and many villages will be electrified.
The up gradation, the official said, will also ensure the
availability of sustainable power network with improve voltage
profile and capacity building.
Under the Kohlu Development Package to ameliorate the lot of the
derived people, the government has already initiated many other
development projects in the area which mainly include educational
institutions, and hospitals. “Ensuring the sustainable quality power
supply is also part of the initiative.”
The official said that the construction of 132 kv grid station at
Kohlu will cost Rs 330.29 million. The project will be completed in
24 months with annual income of Rs 60.13 million. To a question he
said that the operational cost would be havening around Rs 1.137 per
unit.
“The main objective of the power wing of WAPDA is to provide
adequate facilities for the generation, transmission and
distribution of electric power keeping in view the future power
requirements of industrial, agricultural and social economic
development of the country.”
He said that existing power supply capacity is inadequate in the
Kohlu town and its suburbs. “This project will open a new era in
socio-economic and agricultural development of the district Kohlu.”
