Mortar shells kill 18 in Bajaur Agency

Observer Report

KHAR—Eighteen persons including children and women were killed when mortar shells landed in Enayat Kalay and Omaray areas of the Bajaur tribal region. Six houses were also destroyed in the incident.

Thousands of people of the area gathered and protested against the incident. Angry protesters brought the dead bodies at highway in front of Civil Colony Khar and staged sit-in.

The protesters said that when the government has announced a ceasefire then why the unarmed people are being killed with bombings.

Moreover, 5000-men strong forces from Salarzai and other tribes in their anti-Taliban drive demolished 45 houses in Amankot, Sharagho, Bisht and other areas.

Meanwhile, two gunmen of the outlawed Lashkar-e-Islam outfit were killed in a clash with security forces in Jamrud area of Khyber Agency. A security man was also wounded in the fighting.
