Jeddah —PPP
co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said his party
does not recognize Musharraf as constitutional
president and it is keeping only working
relationship with the president. Asif Ali
Zardari said this while talking to the media men
here Sunday. “We want balance of power between
the constitutional institutions rather than a
confrontation between parliament and president.
We want to put the country on the road to
progress beyond our personal likes or dislikes.
All the expectations with which we have come
have been fulfilled, therefore, we have extended
our stay in Saudi Arabia. Whenever we had sought
cooperation from Saudi government, Saudi
leadership had always shown generosity. We have
extended our stay in Saudi Arabia to move
forward the talks process with Saudi
leadership”, he underscored.
Lahore—PML-N president, Mian Shahbaz Sharif has
been elected as new Punjab Chief Minister on
Sunday. He secured 265 votes in the House of 371
and took oath as new Punjab Chief Minister.
Governor Punjab Salman Taseer administered oath
to Shahbaz Sharif and his cabinet at a ceremony
held at Governor’s House. PML-Q, an opposition
party did not field any candidate for the chief
minister slot and boycotted the election
procedure. Prior to the session, Muslim

leadership of the opposition leader, Chaudhry
Zaheeruddin staged a protest in front of the
Assembly Hall, but later called off after
sometime and the opposition member went away
from the protest camp.

to introduce Biometric Control System (BCS)
along their borders to check illegal
cross-border movement, officials said. The two
sides agreed on the system during the visit to

Prime Minister on Interior. Malik met with
Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Afghan

Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on
Sunday said that he would try to talk to Asif
Zardari in a bid to persuade him to get the
judges restored so that no need of any long
march arose. Addressing his maiden press
conference after taking oath as Punjab Chief
Minister, Shahbaz said he had no personal enmity
with Pervez Musharraf rather the latter was his
friend in the past and he was also a bridge
between him (Musharraf) and Islamabad.
IT IS GOOD to see Shahbaz Sharif in good form to
start his second innings like a seasoned
campaigner. First at the Punjab Assembly, then
at the Governor’s House and then at CM Sectt
(90-The Mall) he spoke like someone who had
meticulously done his home work. There is
consistency in his thoughts and obviously long
years of exile have brought about a much more
balanced and measured approach in him. After
being elected unopposed as the Punjab Chief
Minister with a tally of 265 votes (the
opposition group making themselves scarce) he
stood up in the house to make a rambling and
memorable speech. It was punctuated with most
appropriate quotes from Habib Jalib the
revolutionary poet known for his challenge to
past dictators with his firey verses.

President Pervez Musharraf ordering the sitting
judiciary regarding the writ petitions of Sharif
Brothers. “President General Pervez Musharraf
like other generals lobbied for the becoming
Army Chief” said PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali
Khan while addressing a news conference

says the more confused than the president house,
“If the current situation remains then it’s hard
for the assemblies to complete their tenure,”

will chalk out its policy about the impeachment
of the President after the two major parties
announce their strategy on the issue. He saw
contradiction in Nawaz Sharif’s stance.
