Peshawar— Former Foreign Secretary Shamshad
Ahmad Khan has said that Pakistan nuclear and
missile program ensured peace in South Asia. He
stated this in his keynote address on the
occasion of two-day international conference of
“Nuclear Power of Pakistan” in the University of
Peshawar. The conference was arranged by
Department of International Relations University
of Peshawar in collaboration of Hanns Seidal
Foundation Germany.Shamshad Ahmad Khan said that
now we have credible deterrence, therefore, we
should focus on strengthening of democracy,
economy, good governance and rule of law. He
said that people of Pakistan have great respect
for our Armed Forces and the armed forces should
remain aloof from politics.
Mirpur — AJK government has kicked off an
integrated plan to benefit the commonman with
quick and quality medical facilities at their
doorstep through the state-run hospitals, RHCs
and BHUs throughout Azad Jammu Kashmir including
in remote and far flung areas. This was
disclosed by Health Minister Dr. Najeeb Naqi
while addressing a seminar on Nursing held at
the Kashmir Cardiology Center here Saturday
under the auspices of State School of Nursming
Azad Kashmir on the eve of the silver jubilee
celebrations of the emergence of the school
observed on Saturday.
Islamabad —Prime Minister
Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has approved the
up-gradation of Institute of Engineering &
Technology Training Multan and Institute of
Engineering & Fertilizer Research Faisalabad to
the status of university to meet the needs of
growing number of students and to cater the
industrial sector requirements in these regions.
The Prime Minister allowed the National
Fertilizer Corporation (NFC) to finance Rs. 2
billion from its own resources for the
up-gradation of the Institute of Engineering &
Technology Training Multan and Institute of
Engineering & Fertilizer Research Faisalabad.
Chitral—After completion of
Lawari Rail Tunnel, fate of the people of
backward Chitral district would change as it is
a gate way to central Asia and shortest route to
these republics, said District Coordination
Officer Mutasim Billah. He said this during a
meeting with elite of Ashriat, Baradam and
Ziarat villages whose land would be used for 2
Kilometers tunnel and 2 Km approach road to
plate North portal of the tunnel. He said
Chitral is a peaceful area and due to its
geographical structure there is only five to six
months practical life due to heavy snowfall and
blockage of the only land route at Lawari Pass.
As a result Chitral remained isolated and
disconnected from rest part of the country. The
DCO said untapped mineral, natural resources and
other potential areas would be explored once the
lawari tunnel project was completed.
Peshawar —A high level meeting held at
Governor’s House here on Saturday decided to
establish a number of higher and quality
educational institutions through out FATA. The
meeting, chaired by the NWFP Governor Mr. Owais
Ahmed Ghani was also attended by the Additional
Chief Secretary FATA Habibullah Khan, Vice
Chancellor UET Peshawar Syed Imtiaz Hussain
Gilani, Secretary P&D Zafar Hassan, Secretary
A&C Kazim Niaz, Political Agent Khyber Tariq
Hayat Khan and Director Education FATA Fazal
Manan. It was decided to establish one Cadet
College in each tribal Agency whereas the
project of already proposed Cadet College in
Mohmand Agency will be implemented on priority
basis.
