No nation can survive sans justice: Iftikhar

Hyderabad—Deposed Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Choudhry has said that every citizen of the country has the right to gain justice, which is possible only through supremacy of the constitution and rule of law.

No nation can survive in the society without having justice, he said in his telephonic address to the lawyers and office bearers of different district bar associations of Sindh, gathered at the Hyderabad Bar Association office here on Friday.

Iftikhar Muhammad Choudhry said besides judiciary, the administration was also responsible to ensure justice and protect the rights as well as life and property of the people.

He urged need for a system in the country which could ensure peace, tranquility and provision of rights to all citizens.

All decisions should be made and implemented under the constitution and the law, he said.

The struggle of lawyers is aimed at restoring supremacy of the constitution and rule of law, he said. He stressed that the country at current point of time could not afford compromises and the people must get their rights on merit and as guaranteed under the constitution and law.

Paying tributes to the lawyers’ movement for the restoration of judiciary, he said that despite losing lives and suffering torture, the morale of lawyers remained high and they continue to be committed to bring about justice in the society and ensure supremacy of constitution and rule of law.

He said that it was much before March 9, 2007, the judiciary had started its struggle to provide justice to the common people and it was these efforts that resulted in relief and positivity for the masses, who are now supporting the lawyers’ movement.

He paid tributes to those lawyers who lost their lives or got injured for the restoration of judiciary. He also commended the struggle of Hyderabad Bar adding that the protest, which was initiated by Hyderabad Bar on March 10, 2007, has turned into a strong movement.

He thanked the office bearers of various District Bar Associations, who came here to hear his telephonic address adding that lawyers of Sindh are playing vital role in the movement.—APP
