Certain lobby active to keep me away from public: Nawaz

Salim Ahmed

Lahore—Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that a certain lobby is making efforts to keep him away from public and so-called objections are being filed in a bid to reject his nomination papers for the by-elections.

Talking to newsmen at his Model Town residence after a joint meeting of the central and provincial parliamentary boards of the PML-N, Sharif said that whole nation wanted impeachment of Pervez Musharraf who caused great harm to the country as well as institutions and public.

Nawaz said it is a wrong perception that only the PML-N wanted impeachment of Pervez Musharraf. He added that a lobby is active against him and in order to reject his nomination papers filed for contesting the by-election for National Assembly seat, some so-called objections are being filed.

Sharif further said lawyers are waging a just struggle and the PML-N stands shoulder to shoulder in their struggle. Answering a question, he said the PML-N stands for commitment made with the Pakistan People’s Party with regard to by-elections. The PPP had agreed that it will not field its candidates against those seats of national and provincial assemblies where the PML-N candidates got success in February 18 polls. The PML-N will also adopt the same course, he added.

Earlier, a joint meeting of the central and provincial parliamentary boards was held at Model Town residence of Nawaz Sharif. The meeting finalized names of the PML-N candidates for the by-elections for National and Provincial Assemblies seats from Punjab.

The PML-N candidates for National Assembly seats in by-polls are: Ahmed Attique Anwar (NA-132), Haji Parvaiz Khan (NA-65), Captain (Retd) Safdar (NA-52), Hamza Shahbaz Sharif (NA-119), Nawaz Sharif (NA-123). The PML-N had not fielded any party candidate for NA-147 on the request of PPP.

This seat was vacated by Mian Manzoor Wattoo. The PML-N candidates for Punjab Assembly seats in by-polls are: Chaudhry Mohammad Safdar (PP-59), Rana Sanaullah (PP-70), Hassan Saifullah (PP-99), Shahid Hussein Bhatti (PP-107), Umer Hayat Lalika or Akhter Hayat ( PP-118), Mian Shahbaz Sharif (PP-121,124, 154), Rana Arshad (PP-171) and Sardar Zulfiqar Khan Khosa (PP-243).
