Sindh industrial policy in pipeline: Rauf Siddiqui

Karachi—Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce, Abdul Rauf Siddiqui on Wednesday said that he will announce industrial policy upto May 16, 2008 which will include many direct and indirect incentives and facilities for industrialists.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the ground-breaking ceremony of Steel Melt Shop/ Steel Making Induction Furnace project of Tuwairqi Steel Mills Limited (TSML) here, the Minister said Sindh Government has planned to set up two industrial zones of 5,000 acres each outside Karachi. One of these will be at Dhabeji along National Highway.
“Paper work for these zones will be completed soon,” he said.
These industrial will help boost industrialization in the province and prove the best avenue for utilisation of industrial raw materials especially available in Sindh and vast base of human resources.
He said he will ensure “one finger operation” facility wherein an intending investor will have to come up only with a proposed project/blue print and the Ministry of Industries will complete all the formalities and arrange the required facilities.
He said he had directed the officers of his Ministry to act as helping hands to traders and industrialists instead of posing as their masters.
He said within one week a complaint cell will be set up at his office here to register the complaints of industrialists and traders, and to address these at the earliest possible.
In the light of shortage of electricity, he said, industrialists should be allowed to import generators for industrial use at zero rate duty to facilitate/promote industrial activity.
“I will talk to the concerned authorities at Federal level,” he said.
He, on behalf of the provincial government, assured all support to the business community.—APP
