Peshawar grab 14th Inter District Gymnastic C’ship
Peshawar—Peshawar grabbed the 14th edition of the
NWFP Inter-District Gymnastic Championship by scoring 105.50 points
here at Indoor Hall of the Qayyum Sports Complex on Sunday.
NWFP Minister for Sports Syed Aqil Shah was the chief guest on this
occasion. Ex-Information Minister Asif Iqbal Daudzai, Director
Institute of Computer and Management Sciences Malik Tajamal Hayat,
President NWFP Gymnastic Association Akbar Zia, Organizing Secretary
Ejaz Ahmed, International TOs Shahjehan and Rahim Bokhari and large
number of game spectators were also present and witnessed the
thrill-packed demonstrations of the gymnasts.
Peshawar’s gymnasts were more superior with their display in the
Floor, P-bar and Volt against gymnasts from Swat, Malakand,
Charsadda, Haripur, Abbottabad, Kohat, and Mardan.
In the overall results, Peshawar took the major trophy by scoring
105.50 points, followed by Swat with 93.10 and Mardan with 83.60
points respectively. In the individual floor (ground work) Jamil
Khan of Peshawar won gold medal, followed by Shakeel Ahmad
(Peshawar) and Riaz Ahmad of Haripur.
In the Volt charged Riaz Ahmad bewildered his fellow gymnasts by
winning the most deserving gold medal, followed by Shakeel Ahmad and
Rafiullah while in the Parallel Bar Rafiullah took gold medal,
followed by Jamil and Wajid Ali of Swat.
Rafiullah with his individual 37.00 points got the best gymnast
award, followed by Jamil with 36.40 and Shakeel with 35.90 took
silver and bronze medals.
In the Peshawar Inter-Club competitions SGA won the overall trophy
by securing 96.80 points, followed by ARG with 74.04 and IS John
Academy with 60.10 points took runners-up and third position
trophies.
In the Individual floor (ground work) Adnan won gold medal, followed
by Qayyum of ARG Academy and Muhammad Umair of IS John.
In the Volt (horse) Zararullah of Sarhad Academy won gold medal,
followed by Zubair of the same and Zeeshan of ARG won silver and
bronze medals respectively.
In the Parallel Bar (P-Bar) Zakaullah of SGA won gold medal,
followed by Adnan and Muhammad Umair.
Sana Jan was declared best female gymnast as she won gold medal in
P-Bar, Floor and Volt, followed by Marsad Jabeen and Chan. A total
of 10 girls’ gymnasts took part in the events. Adnan was later on
declared best Gymnast, followed by Zararullah and Muhammad Umar.
Later, Syed Aqil Shah, Asif Iqbal and Malik Tajamal Hayat gave away
prizes to different categories.
Aqil Shah appreciated the NWFP Gymnastic Association for organizing
Inter-Club and Inter-District Championships by providing
opportunities to the gymnasts to show their skills.
He assured that all support would be provided to them by enhancing
their grant besides other financial support in organizing more
