Benazir Youth programme to be initiated: Nargis

Karachi—‘Benazir Youth Programme’ is being initiated which will consist of two years’ training and later the youths would be sent abroad.
This was stated by the Sindh Minister for Social Welfare, Begum Nargis N.D. Khan.
She was speaking as chief guest at a seminar on “ Need and importance of medical social services in Sindh”.
The moot was held at the campus under the auspices of the Department of Social Work, University of Karachi.
The Minister said that efforts would be made for the placement of those students who have completed their masters’ from the Department of Social Work or those whose courses are nearing completion.
She was of the view that the medical social services would soon be restored in Sindh.
Ms. Nargis said that the job of the medical social worker is to help resolve the problems faced by the patients.
The Chairperson of the Department of Social Work, University of Karachi, Dr. Kulsoom Kazi, said that the seminar was aimed at fostering awareness regarding the revival of the medical social services.
She also spoke of the services being rendered by the students who have passed out from this Department.
However, Dr. Kulsoom was of the view that importation of training was also very essential.
She pointed out that there was a lack of research activities among the students.
For this, special programmes as well as workshops are required to be conducted.
A former director of Social Welfare Department, Government of Sindh, Adeel Fatima, said that except for Sindh the medical social services are in operation in the other three provinces in the country. She believed that the efforts for their resumption in Sindh would also prove to be successful. Javed Shaikh, Muhammad Rashid and Sakina Riaz also expressed their views on the occasion.—APP
