DCOs directed to ensure easy availability of Atta

Karachi—Sindh Chief Secretary, Fazlur Rehman, has directed the officials of Provincial Food Department and DCOs to promote liaison with concerned departments and ensure easy availability of wheat and “Atta” (flour) throughout the Province including Karachi and said all impediments in the way be removed.
He referred to a meeting held by Provincial Food Secretary recently and called for a full fledged working relationship between all concerned departments and law enforcing organisations so that implementation of the decisions taken in that meeting could be made possible.
The Provincial Food Secretary in a report sent to Chief Secretary apprised him about the decisions taken.
The decisions taken were:— The flour mills of Karachi region will purchase wheat from Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Thatta and Badin Districts,— The food grain licences issued to unconcerned persons except Flour Mills Association of Pakistan and Atta Chakki Association will be suspended for 60 days,— The licences of rice millers, warehouse owners, chicken feeders and other agents/ brokers will also remain suspended for 60 days,— Grain licencees will immediately show available wheat in their stocks,— Free movement of atta in the Province will be allowed,— Agents/ middlemen can use the authenticated copy of food grain licence showing route and date and could use the same only for once.
— Since Karachi is a non-production area, wheat storage will be allowed equal to seven days grinding capacity to enable the flour mills to maintain supply situation,— Deputy Director Food will set up check-posts at 2 or 3 points with one being at Hyderabad Toll Plaza where the Ranger would be deployed,— Director Food will take steps for rangers deployment and also take steps for setting up more checkposts if needed,— Action would be taken against those involved in illegal trading of wheat and hoarding.—APP
