NUST spent Rs 74.72m on scholarships during 2007
Rawalpindi—National University of Science and
Technology (NUST) has emerged as one of the best and leading
universities of the country, having collaboration with more than 32
top universities of the world.
It has been imparting quality and international level education to
the students at home, a NUST spokesman told APP here on Friday.
He said that NUST has been providing international education to the
students on affordable fee in the country, as 30 % of the fee is
returned to the students in the form of scholarship on merit basis.
About Rs.74.724 million were spent for provision of scholarships to
the students in the year 2007, as 25% students were assisted under
this programme, he informed.
The spokesman said at the moment out of total strength of 6183 some
5185 are undergraduate and 708 students have been doing MS/M. Phil.
The number of students will grow to 15000 students by the year 2015,
he added.
He said NUST is the country’s only university which has lot of PhDs
academicians. Out of 290 students have been completing their PhD at
the moment out of which some 216 students have been doing PhD in
abroad under NUST programme, he added. The students awarded with
scholarship for doing PhD abroad are bound to provide their services
for five years to NUST in the country.
He said NUST is the country’s only university, which ranks among one
of the world’s top 500 universities having collaboration with more
than 32 prominent universities and institutions of different
countries including USA, UK, Australia, China, Japan and other
important countries.
He said “NUST offers a diverse spectrum of contemporary disciplines
that range from IT, robotics and engineering sciences to Management,
Medical and environment sciences.
He said the University has been working to redefine boundaries,
challenge conventions and broaden the horizons of scientific,
technical and business education.
The university, he said has been working to enable creative minds to
achieve bright futures. About the distinction, he said out of eight
President’s gold medal, four were awarded to NUST teachers in
different fields, as NUST quests for excellence and quality
education of international level at home.
NUST is the first University in Pakistan to attain ISO
certification, and member of International Network of quality
assurance for Higher Education.
He said NUST has also introduced Center of Virology and Immunology (NCVI),
the first and unique of its kind in South Asia as the center has
dynamic interdisciplinary undergraduate and post graduate programme
to prepare students for research and teaching in Virology and
Molecular pathogenesis of infectious diseases and Immunology.
Brig. (r) Safdar Ali Shah provided details about the ongoing and
