Gandhara varsity expands outreach activities : Yar

Peshawar— Gandhara University has expanded its outreach activities especially in the field of community dentistry to make aware the people about the dentistry related diseases, its prevention and treatment, said Vice Chairman Gandhara University Yar Muhammad Khan.
Briefing newsmen about the Dental Care Awareness Week arranged by the Gandhara Varsity from May 12-15 at the campus, Yar Muhammad Khan flanked by Prof. Dr. Shaheed Iqbal Principal Sardar Begum Dental College (SBDC) and Hospital, a constituent of Gandhara University, Dr. Tariq, and other dental surgeons, said, the SBDC has arranged countless number of free dental camps in far flung and remote areas of the province with sole aim to create awareness among the people about the dental diseases.
Moreover, he said founder of the varsity late Surgeon Kabir had also great desire for expanded outreach activities of his varsity and with this motto in mind the management made its best efforts to reach the have nots for providing them quality medical treatment free of cost. He claimed that in private sector SBDC and Hospital was the only institute, which has latest equipment and highly qualified teaching staff that offered best possible treatment facilities to the patients. He said the HEC has recently upgraded ranking of the Gandhara varsity from ‘B’ to ‘A’ category and the Government of NWFP chartered it in November 2002. The other institute in this category was GIK Institute Topi, Swabi District. He said two or three more faculties would be added in the varsity including Social Sciences, Basic Sciences and Humanity.
After upgrading its ranking, the HEC would now bear 50 percent of the total expenditures in the expanding programs of the varsity like sending its faculty members of PhD abroad etc, Yar Muhammad Khan added.
Professor Shaheed Iqbal Principal SBDC and Hospital told a questioner that postgraduate classes in dentistry would start by July this year as College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan has allowed conducting FCPS Part-II exam. —APP
