World Thalassamia Day observed in AJK
Mirpur— Like other parts of the world, Universal
Thalassemia Day was observed in Azad Jammu Kashmir on Thursday with
the renewal of the pledge to utilize maximum efforts to save
children. The patients of Thallassemia through ensuring regular
transfusion of blood other required treatment till complete
recovery.
Special ceremonies were held in the public sector hospitals in
various parts of AJK to observe the day. To raise awareness among
the people including philanthropists for performing their due role
for the recovery of the patients of thalassemia.
In Mirpur, a special ceremony followed by a walk to mark the day was
held at the Thallassemia Treatment Centre located in DHQ Hospital
under the auspices of Mirpur chapter of Thallassemia society of
Pakistan President Thalassemia society Dr. Akram Chaudhry Dr.
Innayat Ullah, secretary general thalassemia society of Pakistan,
Mirpur chapter Dr. Zaffar Chaudhry Dr. Maqbool Ahmed, Mumtaz Raool——
Mir Dr. Amjad Insari, Azeem Khan of Kashmir Blood Bank and other
philanthropists led the walk started form the DHQ Hospital.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Akram Chaudhry, Dr. Zaffar Iqbal
Chaudhry, Children specialist Dr. Innayhat ULLah Tahir and other
called for integrating maximum efforts to fight against the serious
diseases of Thallassemia to save the child patient s of the disease.
They said that the first most-modern Thallassemia Treatment centre
in Azad Jammu Kashmir is already working at the District Headquarter
Hospital Mirpur in order to extend latest treatmetn to the patients.
They recalled that the center was set up with the collaboration of
the philanthropists engaged in serving the sick humanity.
Speakers said that recent emergence of Thalassemia center at Mirpur
District Hospital was a major breakthrough in the medical field in
Azad Kashmir after first most modern Thallassemia center in AJK was
extending treatment to the children patients of Thalassemia, through
transfusion of blood.
They pointed out that establishment of Thallassemia center in Mirpur
was the pilot project of the integrated plan chalked out to extend
latest medical treatment Centers to the child patients of
Thallassemia through establishment of special Thallassemia Treatment
centers in all eight district headquarterhospitals in Azad Kashmir
with the collaboration an assistance of NGOs.— APP
