Nasrin advocates declaring Karachi-Mumbai as sister cities

Karachi—Acting Nazim Karachi, Nasrin Jalil has said that Karachi and Mumbai have lot of similarities and, therefore, these two cities should be declared as “sister cities”.
She called for immediate opening of visa offices in Karachi and Mumbai besides starting ferry service between the two.
She was speaking at a function organised to felicitate visiting Indian poets as part of “Hamara Karachi” festivities at the lawns of Naib Nazim Secretariat at Old KMC Building.
The Indian poets Mansoor Usmani, Rais Ansari, Dr Nasim Nikhat and Waseem Brelvi are at present on a visit here after attending the Aalmi Mushaira organised by Skanan-e-Quaid.
The function was also attended by Provincial Ministers Askari Taqvi, Rauf Siddiqi, former Federal Minister Safwanullah, various Town Nazims and Naib Nazims, members of City Council, former MQM Advisors besides Dr Farman Fatehpuri, Prof Sehar Ansari, Khawaja Rafiq and others.
Nasrin Jalil said the way distance between the people of two countries reduced through Lahore-Amratsar Bus Service, the Khokhrapar- Monabao train service in Sindh should also be revived. She pointed out that Pakistan and India enjoy unbreakable historic relations. She said that both countries should continue to have an exchange of delegations because their people have deep affiliation with each other and wants better relations.
Nasrin Jalil expressed the confidence that visit by Indian poets, will have soothing impact on Pakistan and India relations.
She said that through international mushairas, the Saknan-e-Shehar Quaid have establish such a beautiful tradition whereby Indian poets are visiting Pakistan continuously for the last 17 years.
“Our effort should be to provide opportunities to our younger generation to take interest in literary gatherings”, she stressed.
Acting Nazim pointed out that very high number of people migrate to Karachi from various parts of the country and this city contributes over 68 percent revenue to national exchequer.
She informed that the development works which could not be started during the last 58 years, were accomplished by present city government in just 2 years.—APP
