All sacked employees to be reinstated soon: Sherry
Islamabad—Federal Infor-mation Minister Sherry Rehman has assured of
reinstatement of all sacked employees as soon as possible.
While reacting to a question, during the question hour, she informed
that all those employees sacked due to their temporary status, those
working on daily wages and employed on contract would be granted
permanent status, as promised by PM in accordance with his 100-day
action plan.
She informed that Pakistan Steel Mill distributed a dividend of Rs.
one billion to the government, while earning a net profit of more than
Rs 3 billion, on revenue of more than 32 billion.
Replying to a question she informed that total expenditure of the
Steel mill amounted to more than Rs. 29 billion, and currently about
16, 483 employees were employed at the concern.
The minister who also holds the Health portfolio, informed the Senate
that despite categorical refusal of government to allow an increase in
prices of medicines, the hospitals did increase the prices on their
own, mostly on the medicines manufactured/marketed by Multi-national
companies.
She also assured of stopping the fees charged for various tests of
patients at PIMS, and said that a summary would soon be forwarded to
the PM for the purpose. She also informed of starting various other
health-related projects in the capital city and promised to make more
allocation for health in future budgets, while promising to expand the
polyclinic hospital.
Taking the floor, senior minister for food and Agriculture, Chaudhry
Nisar informed that during 2007-8 more than 887 agricultural samples
were found to be defective, and cases had been filed against the
guilty parties. He also informed that the ministry had initiated 29
agricultural projects in the next 5-year plan across the country.
Speaking on the occasion foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi
informed the House that some foreign Muslim elements who visited
Pakistan for tableeghi tours joined the extremist outfits while many
took sanctuary in seminaries.
He also informed the House that due to such illegal happenings, the
Pakistani embassy in Ankara, Turkey had rejected 14 visa applications
submitted for a tableeghi tour of Pakistan.—Online
