Judges Committee fails to reach any decision

Staff Reporter

Islamabad—The final meeting of judges restoration committee has failed to reach any decision and has decided to present the agreed draft resolution to PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N Quaid Mohammad Nawaz Sharif to take the final decision.
Briefing newsmen after the last meeting of judges restoration committee here on Wednesday night, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Farooq H Naek said, Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif would brief media on the constitutional package and resolution. He said all, except Fakhruddin G Ibrahim, participated in the meeting.
Farooq H. Naek said Aitzaz Ahsan remained in the meeting throughout and he did not leave the committee at any point.
The meeting, which finally ended after quite lengthy and volatile controversy after four days of deliberations in the Punjab House on Wednesday night, gave a detailed review to the issue of reinstatement of judges, and the draft’s content pertaining to future of (current) serving judges.
Farooq H Naek informed the media that this was the final session of the meeting in which all the members expressed their views.
Meanwhile, sources have said that PML-N has refused to accept a middle path solution in judges’ restoration issue and will consider quitting the coalition in case of the failure in talks.
The Law Minister Farooq H Naek also expressed his optimism to newsman that Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim would re-join the committee; however, no decision has yet been made about his replacement.
“Constitutional Committee has reached on consensus on Charter of reinstatement of deposed judges, however, constitutional analysts too have two opinion about its implementation procedure, “ he said.
He further said that Committee has finalized its task, and has also reviewed reinstatement of judges resolution through Act of Parliament and prepared proposals, which would be sent to Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N Head Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
It would be premature to say something that how much time both parties leadership will take to solve this issue. Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is in London nowadays, while Asif Ali Zardari will also go to London where a meeting is likely.
Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Khawaja Asif, Khawaja Haris, Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naik, Federal Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Hafeez Pirzada, President SCBA Aitzaz Ahsan and Rehman A Malik attended the meeting
Meanwhile, according to a Private TV Channel, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, who is also a member of the committee, after the conclusion of meeting has reportedly refused to accept the legitimacy of the PCO judges.
