Shortage of UPS in twin cities

Islamabad—The demand for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) devices is on its peak due to acute power outage in twin cities and at the peak of summer season these devices will not be available even at high prices. However the people are not satisfied with the result of these devices.
Munier, a dealer of UPS told APP that two types of UPS (China and Local) are available in the market but the demand for local UPS is higher having better quality and long expiry date.
Hafiz Tariq, a student said that hot weather has compelled the inhabitants of twin cities to use UPS which provide little protection from harsh weather but this devise is not completely alternative of electricity as a UPS is sufficient only for a tubelight and two ceiling fans.
Shahid Khan, a customer said that the demand of UPS has been increased in twin cities as it is a cheap source to store electricity instead of Generator and rising prices of petroleum products make it impossible for a consumer to generate electricity through generators.
Asif Ali a consumer said, as heard from different people that a UPS works for six to eight hours during outage of power but the case is different as it can work properly only for two or three hours.
The batteries use in vehicles are also available on high prices in the markets due to increasing demand of UPS,he added.
It is the beginning of hot season, the demand of this device would be raised up in June and July and it may not be available at high prices, he said.
An Official of WAPDA said if the demand of UPS would raise up more in summer season than shortage of power crisis would become more worse.—APP
